Sea Guernsey 2005 & The Viaer Marchi |
This year's Viaër Marchi will feature SeaGuernsey 2005. The Guernsey Sea Cadets will hoist their ensign at 5.30pm and then carry out Ceremonial Sunset at 8.05pm. This will be followed by Guernsey's own GU10 singing Sea Shanties, one of which will be 'What shall we do with the Drunken Sailor'; the crowd will be invited to join in.
This traditional Guernsey Market will be held at Saumarez Park at 5.30pm on Monday 4th July. Car Parking will be available at Home Farm from 5.00pm. FREE shuttle buses, from 5.00 to 10.00pm, will run from the additional car parks at La Mare de Carteret (Primary and Secondary) School, Les Beaucamps School and the Grammar School. In addition, paying buses from Island Coachways, Nos 2, 3 and 3A will deliver you to this Victorian market.
After the record breaking success of 2004 when an estimated 7500 people attended, there will be the traditional Guernsey Bean Jar and/or Monty Vaudin's fish special, all washed down with Guernsey Cider. There will also be varieties of good home baked food such as gache, pancakes, hot filled rolls and cakes. Jim Jamouneau's Crown and Anchor will finish off the evening.
A great favourite amongst Guernsey folk and visitors are the 20 or more demonstrations of traditional Guernsey crafts.
The main ring will be busy from 6.15pm with bands and dancers. At 7.50pm, the Costume Parade for the judging of the Best Guernsey Costume (Male or Female) will take place and the Peggy Carey Memorial Trophy will be awarded by Lady Foley. We are delighted that the Lieutenant Governor and Lady Foley can attend. This will be their final Viaër Marchi in their official role.
