The 2005 Viaer Marchi |

The 2005 Viaer Marchi was a great success helped by an unexpected sunny evening in an otherwise poor summer to date. The numbers at about 7000 were slightly down on last year. The weather forecast was not totally favourable, but improved, and road works had an effect. The road works at L'Aumone, arguably the main arterial road to Saumarez Park led to diversions and major traffic jams which did not help the normal smooth flow of traffic to Home Farm and other car parks.
Comment received from local people and visitors was very positive especially about the stalls and arts and crafts. The food stalls did particularly well with only four cups of Bean Jar remaining and much praise was given to Monty Vaudin's fish cakes. Takings were on a par with last year which make a very important contribution to the National Trust of Guernsey's annual fundraising. A special thank you to the Trust's two sponsors, Cherry Godfrey and the Guernsey Cider Company. The Trust would like to thank all the volunteers who helped to make the evening, in what has become, a very special event in the Guernsey calendar.
