The Viaer Marchi in 2003 was a record with an attendance of over 7000. This was put down to good weather and, in part, the euphoria of Guernsey winning the Island Games the Saturday before. Therefore it was with some trepidation that the organisers of the 34th Viaer Marchi approached 5th July 2004. In the event it was a lovely evening and the record was broken again with an attendance of over 7500.

This year was the 800th Anniversary of the island's link with the Crown of England and Guernsey Museums and Galleries laid on a 20 minute playlet in the main ring called "1204 and all that". The ring entertainment was popular with Bands, Maypole Dancers, Singing and Dancing as well as the award of the Peggy Carey Trophy for the best costume which was awarded to Rosalyn Guilbert.

The Craft demonstrations received much acclaim, especially from tourists, as did the Side Shows and Stalls. However it was the tradional food that attracted most Guernsey families with the Meat and Vegetarian Bean Jars, the Guernsey Paella, Gache, Hot Filled Rolls, Freshly Made Bread and many others. Also most popular was Rocquette Cider and the Crown and Anchor.

All in all a very succesful evening and who knows, perhaps in 2005, the record may be broken again - 8000?
