Golf Planning |
The National Trust of Guernsey's views, as expressed by Vice President Jeremy Smithies, was:
1. We are opposed to the loss of a significant, large unit of good agricultural land, rare in the northern third of the Island. Our preference would be for an area of more marginal agricultural land.
2. We suggest that permission for any golf course should only be given on the condition that those who construct it and maintain it respect the ecology of the area. Such undertakings should be enforceable (with penalties) and monitored and action taken if the developers and/or operators deviate from their agreements.
3. If the course development is approved, which is our least favoured option, then we make the suggestion that in our crowded island, whatever site is chosen, the precedent set at L'Ancresse Common of combining a golf course with public assess, is a good one, and if possible should be followed.
