Media Facility at the Folk Museum |
1. The National Trust of Guernsey will hold a media facility at 12 noon on Monday 29th March 2004 at the Folk Museum, Saumarez Park. Parking for media vehicles will be at the Museum itself.
2. The President of the States Board of Administration, Deputy Roger Berry will hand over to Advocate Michael Eades, President of the National Trust the refurbished courtyard at the Folk Museum. The project, completed over the winter months, has involved improvement to the existing drainage and services and the replacement of the entire courtyard surface in random granite and arched cobble granite paving using traditional materials and patterns, at a cost of some £93,000. The work was completed by Vaudins Stonemasons Ltd.
3. The initial site investigation, design proposals and tender documentation was carried out by Guernsey Technical Services student Jennifer Greening, under the supervision of Sean Harvey. Jennifer, who is currently back at University, worked closely with the IDC Landscaping Officer and Curator of the Museum to form what will be a focal point for the Museum for years to come.
4. The Museum opens today for the 2004 Season and changes have been made. A new Workshop has been constructed showing some of the various crafts and industries on the island over the past 200 years. In particular, visitors can see tinsmithing, carpentry, stonework and coopering, amongst others. General and local information and photographs relating to the crafts are also on display.
5. New this year in the Costume Room is an exhibition called "Family Gatherings - Baptisms, Marriages and Burials". Garments worn at weddings, baptisms and funerals are displayed as well as pictures and other items relating to these family occasions.
