Le Moulin (Water Wheel and Barn) |
This unique property was gifted to the Trust in 1989 by Mrs Elizabeth Silten. The main farmhouse, dating from the 16th century, has been expertly restored by the tenant and the two wings are also privately let.
The Water Wheel was restored during 1990-1 at the express wish of Mrs Silten and can now be seen working from the road. Much of the restoration was undertaken by students from the College of Further Education. The Wheel could have been used for grinding corn in the main building but also to drive a threshing machine in the barn. The large Barn is currently being refurbished by the Trust but will remain as a fine example of a traditional Guernsey Barn and will be used for storage, it is possible that the Barn pre-dates the original farmhouse.
