States Strategic Plan - NTG Comment
20/09/2009

NTG's comment on States Strategic Plan.

“The Council of the National Trust of Guernsey has reviewed the recently published Environmental Policy, included in the July Billet, for consideration by the States as part of the States Strategic Plan.

The Council is encouraged that the Policy makes very specific references to the following area, in which the Trust has special interests:
o        The protection of Guernsey’s traditional culture and values
o        The desire to protect the appearance and feel of the countryside
Delivering policies and actions to support and protect Guernsey’s heritage of biodiversity and landscape character, which is a result of our protected buildings and monuments, treasured trees, protected area of high landscape quality, geodiversity, the local vernacular and the work practices of our traditional industries
Protection to be afforded to important buildings, structures, monuments and archaeology, a review of the current listing of Guernsey properties and support packages to ensure Guernsey’s most important buildings are conserved
o        To promote quality architectural design incorporating high environmental standards, taking into account Guernsey’s heritage and identity.

The execution of these most worthwhile aims is promised through working with partners and ensuring environmental considerations are deliberated in all policy decisions. The Council offers their full support as a partner in pursuing these aims with the States, to ensure that the other two Policies (Economic and Social) operate in harmony with the Environment Policy.”
