Delancey Park Monument to Admiral Lord James de Saumarez
18/02/2010

Andrew Dyke, Cresswell Cuttle & Dyke proposes a monument to capture the spirit of Guernsey's famous Sea Lord, Admiral Lord James de Saumarez.  The Council of the National Trust of Guernsey have been asked for their opinion.

Members of the Council attended a presentation by Andrew Dyke, of Cresswell Cuttle and Dyke, who produced the design for the replacement of the granite monument dismantled by the German forces during the occupation.

All the Councillors who have seen the proposed design and been given the background to the project are unanimous in supporting the new design.

Admiral Lord de Saumarez is one of the most significant figures in Guernsey’s history and, having recognised the impracticality of replacing the monument in its former material, the Council believes that what is being proposed will provide a fitting memorial, which will become a landmark for the Park and for both local and visiting mariners.

The Council also recognises that the raising of the funds required to replace the monument forms part of a broader plan for the regeneration of Delancey Park, which is a most worthwhile initiative.
